September 7 letter offering to buy property
Hello (Mr. X),
As you can tell from my e-mail address, my name is Marion Homer. I am contacting you on behalf of Kingsburg Coastal Conservancy in regard to your property in Rose Bay, NS.
The reason I’m contacting you is that I’m hoping you might sell us your land. Ever since your July conversation with Dee Hilburt, we’ve been fund-raising to collect sufficient funds, and awaiting your planned visit to this area.
We asked a scientist who has a PhD in Biology to give us his impressions of the ecological significance of your land. His assessment is that most of your land is an unusual form of wetland that does not follow the most common pattern. Your land is also in the middle of a whole wetland system, and is a crucial element in the functioning of the whole wetland system. I recognize that this is different information than what you got from the Department of Environment and Labor, and that your actions have been based on DEL telling you there is only a very limited wetland on your property. At the time DEL looked at your land, they had not received any specialized training in how to recognize a wetland. Since that time, they have attended a training session in wetland recognition, and will be re-evaluating a number of sites.
We have a strong desire to maintain your land in a natural state as a functioning wetland, but we also respect your rights as the owner of the property, and we fully understand your desire to live in this beautiful area that means so much to us. So far, 86 residents of the community have contributed to our fund to buy wetland properties along rte 332 in your area, and we’re still canvassing. We hope you will consider selling the land to us. If you are undecided, we hope you will consider holding off on further infilling until a decision has been reached. If you allow us to buy your land, we will then have to remove the fill in order to restore the wetland, and it would be much easier if no more fill is added.
Thank you, Marion Homer 1-902-766-4355
