Concerned local community members have formed an independent group, the Kingsburg Beach Action Committee (KBAC), to oppose development on Kingsburg Beach and to urge the government to strengthen its protection of beaches. Such grassroots support for the issues is critical and KBAC has already brought media and government attention to the need for laws that are fully explicit and truly protective of the coastal environment. Several well-attended meetings of KBAC were held in August '09 and a steering committee is at work addressing both specific and policy level issues.
Legal and legislative processes take a long time, and can stall along the way. If Kingsburg Beach is to achieve
true environmental protection, it will need an on-going demonstration of public support through letters to politicians and attendance at public meetings.
